There is nothing better than getting out of the tub or shower and wrapping yourself in a comfortable towel. If your towel feels rough or doesn’t dry out quickly, it’s time to upgrade. The problem is that there are many bath towels that can be chosen in a wide range of prices, so buying bath towels is not at all easy, especially when you are not sure how they will hold up over time.
How to find your best bath towel
Towel purchasing is fully based on your personal review.
If you want a very soft, ultra-absorbent towel, look for 100% cotton, 100% bamboo and blends or microfibers towels with a thick, smooth loop with yarn on the surface. You can also see the weight of the fabric, which is shown in GSM. More than 600 GSMs are considered heavy, so these will usually be the smoothest. Light towels like waffle knitting/weaving or ribs were usually not soft in our experiments.
If you want a towel that is quick-drying and more durable, consider a cotton-poly mixture or a light fabric with a low pile (small loop). Tulle loops help towels soften and absorb water, but they can take longer to dry and show more wear from laundering.
Are Turkish or Egyptian cotton towels better?
It’s not a rule, but towels labeled “Turkish cotton” or “Made in Turkey” have done better in our experiments than claims from “Egyptian” cotton. Theoretically, these are very similar: both are long-lasting fibers, helping to make the fabric softer and more durable. However, Turkish cotton is more popular in bath towels and is known for drying faster than Egyptian cotton.
How do you stop towels from shedding fluff?
Wash them off before use! Sometimes loose fibers remain from the manufacturing process, but washing towels a few times should help get rid of them. Pro Tip: Washing these makes them more absorbent as it releases residual ends from production. You can read our best article – Best Affordable Antimicrobial Towels of 2021
